About Us

Family business since 2001
Owner operators Dave and Ang Kilmister have lived in Taupo since 1995. We met overseas in London while on working holidays. In 1995 we returned home to New Zealand and decided to take a drive to see where they would like to live. Visiting many regions we finally reached Taupo where our car broke down and we are still here today.

We took ownership of Huka Falls River Cruise in 2001.

Family – We have 3 daughters all born here in Taupo. We are actively involved with the children’s sport and schooling. I have coached Netball for 8 years. Angela has been on the school PTA since 2008 and I have since 2011. I help run the Taupo Table Tennis club. We all love the outdoors and Taupo is a great place for this.

Community & the environment – These are two areas we are very focused on. We have many projects we do annually. These include -

• A locals day where all money raised goes to a local charity or organisation.
• Our staff do a river rubbish clean up annually.
• We run a trapping programme to help make Taupo predator free.
• We maintain the Aratiatia Dam car park.
• Our family helps out with many of the Greening Taupo planting days.

We also host and run a golf day where all money raised goes to the Hilltop School PTA. To date we have had 5 golf days and donated nearly $40000 to the school.

Environment - Our purpose built River boat was built with the environment in mind. We have very clean burning 4 stroke motors that run high thrust propellers. These motors allow for quiet smooth operation and are designed for cruising not speed.

The boats hull has a very shallow draft and being made out of aluminium it is light. This was extremely important as we produce the smallest possible wake and have very little if any impact on the river banks.

Community is important to us...

Locals Day is a chance each year for us to help fundraise for a good cause. We are privileged to work in Lake Taupo and want to share and support our local community where ever and when ever we can. Once a year we hold a locals day, all fares charged on that day for a cruise go towards a good community cause.
